How to Remove Collection Account with MOV Letter

How to Remove Collection Account with MOV Letter

One tactic that has worked when other attempts to remove collection account has failed is using a Method of Verification, or MOV letter. I started using this tactic in 2009. Below is an example of a Method of Verification sample letter. Please note; this tactic has proven resilient over the last decade but major collection companies have tended to not adhere to this. Your mileage will truly vary.

Note: A MOV Letter is not one that I have used often.

The theory behind the MOV letter removal tactic is rooted in the hope that the credit reporting agency or credit bureau will not have complete or accurate verification information. These tactics can be effective if the bureau has already deemed your current dispute as frivolous. The older the frivolous dispute, the more likely this will work. Remove collection account by MOV letters are also effective when the collection account is old, over 5 years old or if they account is with an obsolete company. Just make sure you file your dispute with the credit reporting agency prior to sending your MOV.

I have had limited success with the MOV letter, but success none the less. Please use this method of verification sample letter when using the method of verification method for removal. Just cut and paste the information below, and replace it with your information. You can find information and addresses for the credit reporting agencies at this link on our site.

This letter has been culled from the many example online. Credit goes to those who researched the statute.

“Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, section 611(a)(7), I am entitled to receive a description of the procedure used to determine the accuracy and completeness of the information, including the business name and address of any provider of information and the telephone number of such provider, if reasonably available.”
